Louisiana Immigration Laws

Louisiana has enacted some of the most restrictive state-level immigration enforcement laws in the country. SB 208 (2024) bans all sanctuary policies. SB 15 (effective August 2025) criminalizes refusal to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. All private and public employers must use E-Verify. Undocumented immigrants cannot obtain driver's licenses or in-state tuition. Governor Landry's "Operation GEAUX" (2025) formally partnered Louisiana with ICE for enhanced enforcement.
